The EHS Compliance Technician is responsible for EHS related code compliance issues including all aspects of occupational and environmental laws and regulations, chairing the Employee Safety Team, investigating, tracking and trending incidents, maintaining OSHA 300 Log, posting the OSHA Summary log, annually reporting recordable incidents to the BLS, assisting EHS Officers with related issues including hazardous waste and universal waste, fire and life safety, conducting periodic inspections of the grounds and buildings assuring code compliance and safety, coordinating required annual bleacher inspections, assuring compliance with IBC, IFC, NFPA, maintaining files related to EPA, DEC, NYS Fire and others, and responding to emergencies related to EHS-Fire.
In addition, the EHS Compliance Technician serves as a liaison with Facilities and other departments, NYS Fire Officials, SFD, and other state and federal agencies, and contractors, assists with new staff orientation training, manages EHS web based training (assigning on line training, conducting off line training sessions, creating custom training sessions, and maintaining training reports), uses safety related equipment, such as gas detectors, fire extinguishers and PPE, managing the Emergency Medical Services Club, files monthly and quarterly Cooling Tower test results and annual inspection data, maintains department website, manages Safety Shoe Program, provides safety training to students related to work study programs (i.e. golf cart use, lifting, ladder safety, etc.), maintains and updates content on digital safety display, and attends college events as needed.
Qualifications:Associates Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or Safety Management or an equivalent degree plus 3-5 years experience in OSHA, EPA, DEC compliance and record keeping, including code compliance issues in environmental, health and/or life safety. Desirable to have certification in environmental, OSHA, and/or life safety issues from a nationally recognized organization, such as National Safety Council. Must have a valid NYS Driver's License, familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Photoshop or equivalent and use of a digital camera, and flexible with hours for responding to emergencies related to EHS issues.Note: All new hires of Union College are subject to a thorough education, work experience, criminal history background check and pre-employment physical where applicable.
