About Community Life
Community Life (CL) is TCB's place-based model that uses stable housing as a platform for connecting families, seniors, and households with disabilities to community resources and opportunities. We engage residents in creating programs and building strategic partnerships with local stakeholders to create pathways to opportunities in early education, economic mobility, youth development, voting
registration, health, and resident leadership. Community Life's goal is to create equitable access to community supports, resources, and opportunities for all residents so that everyone can thrive.

Position Description:
Reporting to the Director of Community Life, the Program Coordinator develops and coordinates support services for residents of two properties in Schenectady, NY - Hillside View, a new 58-unit property in construction and Parkside View, an existing 40-unit property. The Program Coordinator's main role will be to implement the Community Life program funded by the Strong Families Fund (SFF), with a special focus on working one-on-one with residents to assist them in achieving housing stabilization, health and wellness, education, workforce development, and financial literacy goals. This role will also support families with children by connecting children 3-5 to pre-school programs, and youth to quality after school and summer programs. The Program Coordinator is an integral part of the housing and property team and plays a critical role in the overall positive culture of the property for the enjoyment of its residents and the respect of its neighbors.

Essential Functions:
* Develop strategic partnerships with local service providers focused on the following areas: education, youth development, workforce development, financial stability and asset building, and community engagement


  • Administer the annual Community Life Questionnaire.
  • Develop and implement the Community Success Plan, a strategic plan that is updated annually which includes strategies and activities to achieve SFF outcomes.
  • Coordinate relationship with Schenectady Community Action Program (SCAP), providing intensive support services to 13 formerly homeless or veteran households, and ensure that their obligations to our families are being met in a timely, professional, and meaningful way; initiate strategic relationships with other local service providers and stakeholders
  • Monitor budget and activities for program operations, including meeting reporting requirements for all grant funded activities and managing progress towards fulfilling grant deliverables
  • Build relationships with residents to better understand their needs and aspirations and connect them with external resources
  • Conduct new welcome orientations for new residents
  • Create consistent outreach and communication with residents using the DyalMyCalls communication sytems,a s well as flyers, and door knocking
  • Track engagement with residents in CL Connect data-based system weekly.
  • Special event planning/coordination with partners and property management and development teams
  • Participation and coordination of resources around Watch List issues such as housekeeping and money management for late rent payers
  • Attend monthly training provided by the Corporation for Supportive Housing
  • Manage administrative tasks required for securing and executing Memorandum of Understanding, including setting up partners as vendors.
  • Recruit and lead resident leaders to assist on the site
  • Other duties and responsibilities as requested


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to understand and respect values, attitudes, and beliefs that differ across cultures and to respond appropriately to these differences with residents in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services
    • Capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including but, not limited to: residents, senior staff, volunteers, interns, and community partners
    • Experience working with families to support their aspirations
    • Ability to collect, track and understand data In order to assess programs and partnerships and inform strategies
    • Operate in a timely manner, with consistency and a high level of integrity and professionalism; provide excellent customer service to residents and partners
    • Excellent communication, organization and writing skills
    • Knowledge of federal, state and local policies affecting housing is a plus.


      Education & Experience:

      • Bachelor's degree with a focus in social work, public health, human services, or community development
      • 1+ years of overall professional experience working with families in housing or human services or required
      • Experience overseeing and managing grants
      • Bilingual English/Spanish speaker is desired
      • Proficiency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook and other computer programs


        • Previous experience in property management, and knowledge of HUD regulation a plus.
        • Previous engagement, communication and collaboration with residents of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds preferred
        • Experience working with partners and site team members to implement programs and initiatives
        • Knowledge of child development and/or experience working with youth

          * Knowledge of Yardi, Property Management databases, is a plus.
