Job Description Summary An internship in Hypersonic Technologies at GE Research provides students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience working collaboratively with our researchers developing advanced technologies enabling the future of high-speed flight. Job Description GE Research is looking for students pursuing graduate technical degrees in hypersonic vehicle enabling technologies who have a strong interest in working in an industrial research environment. At GE Research scientists, engineers, and technicians work to provide GE's businesses and strategic partners with technical innovations for their future generation products, processes, and services. Our interns work side by side with experts in aerodynamics, heat transfer, manufacturing, materials, and mechanical systems completing challenging technical projects applying their theoretical knowledge to real-life technical problems and developing skills in a cutting-edge research environment. Opportunities for networking and showcasing project accomplishments are also part of the program. Qualifications: * Current enrollment in a PhD program, seeking a technical degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field in an accredited college or university * Must be 18 years or older * Must submit your application for employment on the careers page at to be considered * Due to the nature of the work done at GE Research, this role may require the individual to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship Desired Characteristics: * Experience with laboratory testing and/or material characterization methods, including high-enthalpy testing, metallography, and microstructure analysis * Experience with multi-physics simulations including computational fluid dynamics applied to high-enthalpy environments * Experience with AI/ML techniques as applied to multi-physics simulations * Excellent academic performance with technical research orientation * Ability to adapt to change and willingness to be flexible in a global team environment * Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, and organization; demonstrated ability working with a team * Strong problem solving skills, thorough attention to detail This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology.
