Dental Hygienist - FullTime - Days at Mohawk Valley Health System summary: Full-time Dental Hygienist position in a teaching hospital setting providing preventive and therapeutic dental care under the supervision of a licensed dentist. Responsibilities include prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, topical applications (fluoride, anesthetic), radiographs, charting, patient education, sealants, and compliance with regulations. Requires completion of an ADA-accredited dental hygiene program and a valid New York State Dental Hygienist license; day shift Monday–Friday, $28–50/hr. The Dental Hygienist will deliver a wide variety of dental services by performing preventive and therapeutic treatment procedures and by instructing individuals in oral self-care techniques. Works under the supervision of a licensed dentist in accordance with Article 133 of the Education Law. Position Responsibilities Under the general supervision of a licensed dentist, performs services which may include: removing calcareous deposits, accretions and stains, including scaling and planing of exposed root surfaces indicated for a complete prophylaxis; applying topical agents indicated for a complete dental prophylaxis; removing excess cement from surfaces of the teeth; providing patient education; placing and exposing X-ray films; performing topical anticariogenic agent applications, including but not limited to topical fluoride applications, and performing topical anesthetic applications; polishing teeth, including existing restorations; taking medical history including the measuring and recording of vital signs; charting caries and periodontal conditions as an aid to diagnosis by the dentist; applying pit and fissure sealants; and applying desensitizing agents to the teeth. Complies with applicable regulations, policies and procedures. May perform other duties under the personal supervision of a licensed dentist. Perform other duties as required.
