Job Description:
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of
Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced
naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to
ensure the safety and reliability of our nation's naval nuclear
reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in
the U.S. Navy's submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval
Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power
Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval
Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since
1946. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory has nearly 8,000 employees
working at primary locations in Pennsylvania, New York, South
Carolina, and Idaho. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory also has an
established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations
around the globe. We are dedicated solely to the support of the
United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. The Naval Nuclear
Laboratory is operated by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC, a wholly
own a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
Job Description
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is looking for motivated engineers to
join the Submarine Reactor Servicing team. This team develops and
owns the tooling and procedures used for the new construction,
maintenance, and end-of-life disassembly for nuclear reactors used
to power US Navy submarines. In this role you will directly support
day to day operations of the Naval shipyards carrying out this work
through troubleshooting of equipment and procedures, local design
and development of new and/or existing reactor servicing systems
including equipment and associated operational procedures, and
teaming with personnel across the Naval Reactors Program on a
variety of improvement efforts or other challenges. This role will
also offer the opportunity to travel to Naval shipyards and vendor
sites in support of procurement efforts and operational assistance
for end-users of the reactor servicing system.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related
field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of
nine years of relevant experience or; MS degree in engineering or
Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited
college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevant
experience or; Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II
qualified or qualified SIT and three years as EOOW in the Nuclear
Operations Program or Current or previous CRE Qualification, or six
years as SRE, or SRE qualified with nine years of experience
Preferred Skills
Prior experience supporting reactor servicing at US Navy or Private
Shipyards.
Prior experience involving technical mentoring and new employee
development.
Demonstrated project/program management and coordination
skills.
Knowledge of practices, procedures, and processes related to
complex mechanical systems, mechanical equipment, or mechanical
component design, fabrication, and implementation is an additional
benefit, as is experience with, or understanding of, engineering
field operations.
Strong Oral and Written communication and networking skills.
Desire to work effectively within a team environment.
Ability to work in a dynamic and technically diverse
environment.
Desire to work in the areas of systems engineering and technical
analysis.
